Heidi Klum On ‘Project Runway’s’ New Season: ‘People Were Fainting On Us’

Lifetime’s hit reality show, “Project Runway,” puts up-and-coming fashion designers to the test to see if they are “in” or “out.”

With a brand new batch of 17 designers each vying for a $100,000 cash prize to help them launch their own clothing line, Heidi Klum spoke with Access Hollywood at the Season 8 premiere in NYC on Wednesday night about the new changes in the show, including its longer time slot.

“Lifetime thought it was going to be fun to move the show from 60 minutes to 90 minutes, which I think it was a fantastic idea,” Heidi explained.

The longer show will allow viewers to see more commentary from the judges.

“A lot of people always thought we need more of the back stories on why a certain designer gets kicked off and someone else gets to stay,” Heidi added.

The extra 30 minutes also brought more drama, including ambulances being called to set, which Heidi blamed on the pressure of the competition.

People were fainting on us,” she admitted.

Heidi explained that the air conditioning on set had to be turned off at times so that the sound did not affect taping.

“[But] I don’t even think it’s what we’re doing to the contestants,” she said. “I feel like they’re under such pressure.”
The new season of “Project Runway” premieres June 29 at 9 PM.
