Hilary Duff Talks Married Life & Avoiding Young Hollywood Pitfalls

Hilary Duff says her August wedding to hockey player Mike Comrie doesn’t feel like it happened almost two months ago.

“It feels like it was just yesterday,” she told Access Hollywood at the Lucky Magazine Shops event in New York City on Thursday. “I keep telling people I got married seven weeks ago, but that’s not the case at all, it’s like a lot longer!”

The actress said the couple’s busy schedules have kept their nuptials fresh.

“It still feels new, probably because we don’t spend every day together,” she told Access.

When it comes to avoiding the pitfalls of growing up in the Hollywood spotlight, something other young stars who have come up through the Disney ranks haven’t been so lucky to navigate, Hilary credits her family.

“I don’t think I was really in the LA or New York scene to be able to get into trouble. It also has to do with who you surround yourself with,” she explained. “My family really helped me keep a straight head on my shoulders. I never got special treatment from anyone in my family and I think that made a real huge difference.”

Adding, “And just keep yourself in line and knowing that this is a job, just like everybody else has a job to do. You’re only as good as your last thing and it’s really gone tomorrow, so you just have to care deeply about who you are as a person.”

In addition to guest starring on Thursday’s NBC’s “Community,” Hilary is slated to play outlaw Bonnie Parker on the big screen in “The Story of Bonnie and Clyde,” with Kevin Zegers playing Clyde Barrows.
