How Forever Tango Helped Karina Smirnoff & Maksim Chmerkovskiy Repair Their Relationship

Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Karina Smirnoff have teamed up on Broadway for the return of “Forever Tango” and the pair told Access Hollywood it helped the former couple become close once again.

“For us, it’s very therapeutic,” Karina told Access of teaming up with her former fiance, Maks, (the pair called off their engagement in 2009) on Broadway for the show.

“We started talking after four years and to be able to put every emotion that we’ve had you know, bottled up for so long into this dance, it makes it so special,” Karina added. “I’m looking forward to dancing every night and sometimes twice a day — you know, when we have matinee.”

And on Tuesday, as the pair unveiled the exclusive “Forever Tango” Sprinkles Cupcake at Sprinkles Cupcakes in New York City, they were full of compliments for each other.

“She actually is an amazing cook,” Maks said of Karina. “And I hate saying that, but I’ve gotta be honest.”

Karina said their chemistry on stage in “Forever Tango” is down to their mutual love of the show.

“I think it works because we both are huge fans of ‘Forever Tango,’ she told Access. “We absolutely love it.”

But, she said, after indulging in some sweets, like the dozens of cupcakes the pair frosted at the cupcake shop, Karina said Maks gets a little worried.

“it’s not easy, especially after I have a few cupcakes, I hear him lifting me. There’s a sound effect that goes with it,” she laughed.
