Hugh Jackman Wanted An Even Longer ‘Chappie’ Mullet

In the near future, mullets (at least in the world of “Chappie”) still exist!

Hugh Jackman stars in the upcoming futuristic movie about a robot with the ability to think and feel, but the actor’s hair is more a throwback than a glimpse into future style.

“He rocks a mullet! Who’s going to say no to that?” the actor told Access Hollywood of his character Vincent at the junket for the Neill Blomkamp-directed movie.

The actor explained that his look for the movie was inspired by photos of a park ranger, even down to his party in the back, business in the front ‘do. But there was also a certain TV personality who may have influenced the character.

“I see Vincent a bit like Ricky Gervais in ‘The Office.’ He’s the guy who thinks he’s the coolest, that everyone likes, but no one actually likes him. No one just has the guts to stand up to him. He’s sort of irrelevant,” the actor explained. “Including his haircut, sorry, apologies to anyone still rocking the mullet.”

In fact, Hugh wanted an even more epic mullet for his character.

“I kind of loved it,” he told Access. “That was my hair! That’s why I wish it was a little longer. It could’ve gone a little longer.”

“Chappie,” which also stars Sigourney Weaver, Sharlto Copley and Dev Patel, opens on March 6.
