Hulu & Lionsgate Team Up For Original Series Deadbeat From Wilfred Writers

Hulu and Lionsgate are teaming up for a new original series called “Deadbeat.”

The 10-episode, half-hour series is about a “hapless but gifted male medium who helps New York’s ghosts settle their unfinished business,” Hulu said in a release on Tuesday.

“Wilfred” writers Cody Heller and Brett Konner co-created the show, which will be executive produced by Troy Miller and his Dakota Pictures.

Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Sarah Esberg from Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment, are producers on the show.

“On behalf of the Hulu team, we are very proud to be working with Cody, Brett, Troy and the talented executives of Lionsgate and Plan B on this uniquely funny and imaginative show,” Charlotte Koh, head of Development for Hulu, said in a statement. “’Deadbeat’ is a welcome addition to our growing slate of smart, distinctive original programming.”

Production on the show will begin this fall, and will be distributed via Hulu and Hulu Plus in 2014.

“We’re enjoying a wonderful collaboration with Hulu and all our creative partners on ‘Deadbeat,’” said Kevin Beggs, President, Lionsgate Television Group, said in a statement. “This fun, edgy and provocative series is a perfect fit for Hulu’s audience and an exciting expansion of Lionsgate’s programming across digital platforms.”
