Its only been a week since “American Idol’s” Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina vied for the Season 10 crown, and the country duo is still taking in their sudden rocket to fame.
“It ain’t sunk in yet! It’s still pretty wild for both of us,” Season 10 winner Scotty told Access Hollywood at their appearance at NBC’s the “Today” show on Thursday.
“Our dreams came true in a matter of less than a year,” runner-up Lauren said. “We haven’t grabbed on to what’s actually going on.”
The country duo was overjoyed to see so many of their fans turn up at 30 Rockefeller Plaza on Thursday morning.
“We owe everything to [the fans]. It’s such an honor for us to see them face to face, instead of singing to them through a camera,” Scotty said as people cheered in the background.
Despite their sudden rise to success, the “Idol” champ said their loved ones haven’t changed how they treat them.
“I don’t want them to!” he told Access. “We’re still the same old Scotty and Lauren.”
“My mom already told me when I get home that I’ve got to do laundry,” Lauren added. “I don’t think our family or friends will ever treat us differently.”
The 17-year-old “Idol” winner told Access that he still hasn’t made an important phone call since nabbing the crown.
“I haven’t [quit my day job] yet, I need to get that in to my manager,” Scotty revealed. “I think he’s waiting on it, but I don’t know he’s put me on the schedule in awhile.”
“I haven’t put in my two weeks notice either at the pizza place,” Lauren added.
The duo is looking forward to getting back to what they love most, their music.
“I’m just excited to get some music out there! We sang a whole show of covers songs and now it’s time to get our own songs out there and be singing those,” Scotty said.
Lauren agreed, saying, “We’re getting [ready] to go to Nashville and work on a couple of songs for our albums, we’re super excited about that. We’re so blessed to be here.”
