Is Natalie Portman Stepping In For Angelina Jolie In ‘Gravity’?

Natalie Portman has reportedly been offered the lead role in the Alfonso Cuaron-directed “Gravity,” after Angelina Jolie recently pulled out of the project.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, early buzz on Natalie’s upcoming “Black Swan” led to the actress being offered the role without even being required to screen test.

The 3-D movie reportedly tells the story of a woman trapped on a space station, who must survive alone after the rest of her crew is killed. Robert Downey Jr. has also reportedly committed to a supporting role in the movie, but according to THR, Natalie will carry the majority of the space epic.

THR also reported that Scarlett Johansson and Blake Lively were also considered by Warner Bros. for the lead role, but that it’s Natalie’s whether or not she wants to suit up.

“Gravity” is slated to start shooting in January, but first, audiences will see Natalie in Darren Aronofsky’s “Black Swan,” which hits theaters on December 1.

Access Hollywood has reached out to Warner Bros. for comment on this story, but has not yet heard back at this time.
