Isaiah Washington Heads To ‘Bionic Woman’

He may have been axed from “Grey’s Anatomy,” but actor Isaiah Washington is returning to primetime this fall, guest appearing on NBC’s “Bionic Woman.”

Washington has signed on to appear in five episodes of the highly anticipated series starring Michelle Ryan as the bionic babe herself – Jaime Sommers.

Details are emerging on Washington’s role, though his character on screen has an air of mystery. His character is brought in to help Jaime understand her new abilities.

“Great television is all about brilliant actors who can inhabit strong characters,” said Katherine Pope, President of Universal Media Studios. “That’s what this role on ‘Bionic Woman’ called for, and Isaiah is the perfect actor to do it.”

Washington is also working with the network on developing an action-series project based on an idea the actor had.

“Isaiah Washington is a very talented and versatile actor and I’ve always admired his work,” Ben Silverman, Co-Chairman, NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios said in a statement. “These episodes on ‘Bionic Woman’ and the new development deal will showcase his talents, and we look forward to producing some great television together.”

Washington was let go from the “Grey’s” cast earlier this summer. Many believe his firing was linked to the actor uttering an anti-gay slur on the set of the popular medical drama in October of last year.

The use of the slur was allegedly in reference to Washington’s co-star, T.R. Knight, who came out as openly gay soon afterward. Washington recently claimed the reference was in regards to himself and not Knight.

After being criticized by the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) and the ABC network, Washington issued an apology and sought counseling over the incident. He also starred in an ABC-televised PSA on intolerance after meeting with gay rights leaders.
