It’s Official: Jane Lynch To Host The Emmys; Says She’s ‘Scared To Death’

Jane Lynch is already an Emmy winner, and now, she’ll take the stage as the host of the famed TV awards show.

The “Glee” star will host the 63rd annual Primetime Emmy Awards, which will air live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 18 on FOX, the Academy of TV Arts & Sciences confirmed on Thursday.

“I’m scared to death. Luckily my nervousness doesn’t exceed my excitement,” the actress said in an exclusive statement to Access Hollywood upon hearing the news.

“I am tickled pink to be hosting the Primetime Emmys on FOX,” she added in a separate press release. “I’m looking forward to singing, dancing and sporting my finest tracksuit.”

Jane had been rumored for weeks as the next likely Emmy host, following in the footsteps of last year’s emcee Jimmy Fallon.

“We’re delighted to have Jane Lynch host the Primetime Emmys this year,” said John Shaffner, Chairman and CEO, Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. “When our host has comedic, dramatic and musical talents – as Jane proved in last year’s opening number – we know it’s going to be fun for us and for the audience at home!”

“Jane was my first – and only – choice as the host for this year’s Primetime Emmys, and I am glad she said ‘yes,’” Mark Burnett, who will executive produce the broadcast, added. “She has incredible comedic timing, and is a charismatic, talented actress whose energy leaps off the screen and stage. I am thrilled and excited to have her as our host.”

It will mark the first time the show has had a solo female host since Ellen DeGeneres had the gig in 2005. Heidi Klum was part of a multi-host format, along with several other of her reality TV counterparts, in 2008.

Last year, Jane took home the Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Sue Sylvester in FOX’s “Glee.”

She will soon be seen on the big screen as Mother Superior in the reboot of “The Three Stooges.”

Nominations for this year’s Emmy awards will be announced on July 14.
