J. Lo & Marc Anthony: Doing It For The Children

Access Hollywood caught up with Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez at the Children’s Health Fund benefit dinner last night, amidst a veritable feeding frenzy of reporters and paparazzi.

Hosted by legendary musician Paul Simon, the event honored former U.S. president Bill Clinton with a Humanitarian Award — but it was the appearance of power couple Anthony and Lopez that set the flashbulbs wild.

A stunning J.Lo was decked out in a blush mauve Michael Kors gown, with her hair swept back in a classic ponytail. At her side was handsome husband Marc, who performed at the gala event.

The scene was a wild free-for-all — with clamoring reporters, ringing cell-phones, and what was perhaps an inappropriate question. When an eager journalist asked Jennifer if a baby was on the way, Marc responded with “here we go,” as Jennifer simply walked away without answering.

But the pair made time to answer Access’ questions about what mattered to them most: the children they were there to support.

“I benefited from programs like this, being born and raised in New York City, in the inner city,” said Anthony. “I benefited from a lot of programs that were made available through causes like [The Children’s Health Fund]. This is basic healthcare, healthcare for children who otherwise do not have access…and I’ll support that as long as they need me. It’s a cause that I’m really, really close to.”

Lopez agreed, noting that helping people was the responsibility of everyone, not just those with fame or influence.

“I think it’s our responsibility as human beings to do as much as we can to help each other,” she told Access. “And for us, for me, I’ve always had close to my heart the children’s charities.”

Jennifer has become known for her humanitarian efforts. Besides her work with the Children’s Hospital in LA, she received an award from Amnesty International in February for her work on the film “Bordertown,” which examines the murders of women in a Mexican border city.

When asked what humanitarian work she is most proud of, she laughed humbly and confessed that she didn’t know, but remarked that getting acquainted with the children these programs benefit became something “personal” for her.

“They’re our future,” she plainly noted. “And it’s very important that they have all that they need to grow and prosper to healthy human beings. And that’s what we want to do…[it’s] what these evenings are about.”

And for Marc, the evening was also about performing.

“You got to sing,” said Jennifer, laughing.

“I got to sing,” Marc agreed.

And with that, the couple made their grand escape!
