Jake Gyllenhaal Talks ‘Prince Of Persia’ Hair Care, Fighting Skills

Jake Gyllenhaal may have bulked up for his leading role in “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time,” but the star joked to Access Hollywood’s Tim Vincent that the real workout was taking care of his hair.

“The hair itself actually took about six months to grow, which was quite a commitment,” Jake said of his shoulder-length style. “And then daily, you know, it was washed, so that was a big workout. It was a very intense regimen for me.”

The star added that his newly long coif needed both shampoo and conditioner.

“Yeah, usually in that order, I shampoo and then conditioner,” he said. “Occasionally, if I felt frisky, it was like a conditioner and then a shampoo.”

Jake, who’s best known for dramatic fare such as “Brokeback Mountain” and “Brothers,” also explained why he’d finally chosen to do a big summer blockbuster.

“This is something I’ve always wanted to do,” Jake said of the action-packed film. “This is what I love to do. This is the way I am in my real life. I like to move around and I’m athletic and I don’t really stop.”

Though he may have been physically prepared for the role, he still had to learn a number of skills – from sword fighting to Parkour, or, street running.

“I was fighting people who were some of the best stuntmen, the best sword-fighters, best Parkour people in the world,” Jake said. “So, to look even like I could do it at all, I had to just repeat and repeat and repeat.”

“Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” is due in theaters on May 28.
