With “Desperate Housewives” drawing to close after eight seasons, James Denton says he’s at peace with the death of his Mike Delfino character – and actually didn’t mind going out with a gunshot.
“I couldn’t find the downside, other than not working with Terri [Hatcher],” the actor told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Friday’s Access Hollywood Live, explaining that he’s looking ahead to new projects.
James said he and fellow male co-stars Ricardo Chavira and Doug Savant always thought one of them would meet their demise.
“For years we’ve been waiting for which one of us was going to go, we’ve killed 52 people on the show. We figured it was always coming,” he said, explaining that they filmed his death in two takes after the first one didn’t look right.
Mike might be gone from Wisteria Lane, but his presence will still be felt on this Sunday’s episode.
“I’m in more of this episode than when I was alive,” James joked. “It’s my best episode ever.”
The actor also spoke about testifying during Nicollette Sheridan’s wrongful termination trial.
“I was the only actor that had to go in there because I had a story they thought was applicable,” he said of the trial, which could be decided today.
“I just told the truth and what happens, happens,” he continued. “You just hope nothing you say is going to negatively affect either one of them because they’re friends. It was just a [difficult] situation.”
Adding, “Everybody is just ready for it to be over.”
