It’s one thing to be blown away by Effie’s show-stopping song in “Dreamgirls” while watching it on the big screen — and another to be right there while she’s blowing the tune.
That’s how Jamie Foxx feels about it, and he should know –It’s his character that Jennifer Hudson’s character was singing to when she belts out the emotion-filled song, and it was a thrill having her sing her big number directly to him.
Foxx says it “was incredible” hearing it at such close range, especially when he could see the reaction of those around him.
He says while camera operators and other crew members were wiping their eyes, he was trying to hold himself in character.
“Dreamgirls” opens in wide release starting today, after beginning its run in just a few theaters its first week and then in major cities the following week.
