‘Jane The Virgin’: Jaime Camil On What Rogelio Can Teach Baby Mateo

“Jane the Virgin” is back on The CW, and despite the cliffhanger involving baby Mateo, the tiny tot won’t be out of his mother’s arms all season.

Jane’s newborn was kidnapped in the Season 1 finale by Sin Rostro, but cast members confirmed to Access Hollywood at the Television Critics Association tour over the summer that Jane will get the baby back at some point as the episodes roll out.

Once that tricky situation is resolved, we can’t wait to see how Rogelio handles being a… actually, don’t even say it.

“Every time someone calls him a granddad, he will not have a good time with it,” Jaime Camil, who plays Jane’s famous actor father on the show, told Access Hollywood, when we visited the set for the Season 2, Episode 1 table read.

So, don’t call him a grandfather, and don’t expect Rogelio to get involved in diaper duty either.

“Oh no, no… [He’ll be involved in] training in how to deal with photographers, training on how to say hi to a crowd, training for when he becomes an international supermodel, you know things like that,” Jaime said. “Very serious and meaningful things.”

And Rogelio is already planning his hashtags. “#Matelio #MatelioDeLaVega,” Jaime suggested.

As the new season begins, Jane will once again be dealing with matters of the heart as well.

After her split with Rafael, getting back with Michael could be an option.

Jaime told Access his character is absolutely invested in who Jane dates.

“Definitely. Well, I’m a dad. I have a daughter. … She’s almost 4, but I can tell you I will never approve of anyone dating her ever, ever, so it’s the case. Right now, Rogelio’s Team Michael, and probably he’s Team Michael because Michael is kind of like far away from Jane. That’s why he’s the safe choice. Who knows? Maybe if Michael gets closer to Jane, he will probably flip to Team Rafael because now that guy is far away from daughter. I mean, who knows?” the actor said.

“Jane The Virgin” returns Monday at 8/7c on The CW.
