Jason Biggs: Malaysia Airlines Joke Was ‘Stupid’; Wants To ‘Move On’

Jason Biggs is saying what many might have been thinking following his joke Tweets about the Malaysia Airlines tragedy hours after it occurred last week, “I was stupid.”

The “Orange Is the New Black” visited “The View” on Monday, where he opened up about his headline-making joke.

“There was one line, an old adage,” the 36-year-old actor said. “‘Never attribute to malice that which is explained by stupidity.’ I certainly meant no harm; there was no malice, but I was stupid. It was poorly timed. I’ve always tried to find the humor in situations… it’s a knee-jerk reaction for me, it’s how I cope.”

Adding, “I have nothing but sympathy for the victims and their families… I’ve learned my lesson and would like to move on.”

Controversy began after the actor wrote, “Anyone wanna buy my Malaysian Airlines frequent flier miles?” following the crash of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17, which was carrying 280 passengers and 15 crew members in a flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur.

Jason has since deleted the Tweet and issued a previous apology on Twitter.

“People were offended, and that was not my intent. Sorry to those of you that were,” he wrote last week. ” This is obviously a horrible tragedy, and everyone-including myself- is sad and angry about it. Sending positive thoughts to the victims and their families. P.S. No one is making me send these tweets- I simply understand that my comments might have come off as insensitive and ill-timed. For that, I apologize.”
