Jason Segel: How Could I Turn Down ‘Gutsy’ YouTube Invitation?

Jason Segel recently made super fan Chelsea Gill’s dreams come true by taking her to the Chicago Film Critics Awards last week (after she invited “The Muppets” star out for drinks in a song posted on YouTube), and the actor says that even though it wasn’t necessarily a romantic encounter, the experience was a good one.

“I wouldn’t necessarily call it a date, but a very, very nice girl wrote a really cool song and she asked if I would have a drink with her. How do you say no to that?” Jason told Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson when asked about the date at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards in Los Angeles on Thursday. “I think you have to say yes. It was so gutsy!”

The “How I Met Your Mother” funnyman said the 23-year-old Chicago native made such a good impression with her video that he didn’t even feel the need to bring a bodyguard along.

“No, I trusted her,” he told Shaun, when asked if he brought security to the rendezvous. “It was awesome.

“She did an amazing job,” he added.

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Jason’s “HIMYM” castmates Neil Patrick Harris and Cobie Smulders told Access they weren’t surprised their co-star accepted Chelsea’s unconventional invite.

“Jason’s a super lovely guy,” NPH told AccessHollywood.com’s Laura Saltman at the People’s Choice Awards in Los Angeles on Wednesday. “He does stuff like that, and authentically. It wasn’t for any kind of agenda.”

Cobie Smulders echoed NPH’s Segel sentiment, saying, “Jason Segel is the nicest man alive.
“I think he respects and appreciates his fans,” she added.
