Jennifer Garner: Ben Affleck ‘Killed’ My Cell Phone During ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Ben Affleck jumped into a pool after getting doused with ice water while taking the ALS Challenge, and he pulled wife Jennifer Garner into the pool with him.

The couple’s cute pool toss was not scripted – in fact, Jennifer revealed to Access Hollywood that there was a casualty while making the Ice Bucket Challenge video: her cell phone!

“If you drop your phone, or if your husband tosses you in the pool on the ALS Challenge and you weren’t expecting it, and your phone was in your back pocket and it got killed… you have to go a day without your phone!” the actress told Access’ Scott Mantz at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival, when asked if she believes it’s possible to really “unplug” in this day and age of smart phones and social media.

“Isn’t that so awesome?” she joked.

Jennifer – who plays an overprotective mother trying to set boundaries on Internet and cell phone use on her teenage daughter in Jason Reitman’s new film, “Men, Women and Children” – said she was initially frustrated over the loss of her phone, but soon enjoyed the freedom.

“I had a day without my phone, and at first, it was, ‘Ben, you could have told me, so I could have taken it out of my pocket,’ but [then] it was so liberating not to have it and not to check it, and just be like, ‘Well, people will have to call me if they need me!'” she said.

“Men, Women and Children” (based on Chad Kultgen’s book of the same name), also stars Adam Sandler, Judy Greer and Emma Thompson, and is set for theatrical release on October 17.
