Jennifer Hudson Talks Mother’s Day, ‘Winnie’ & Her Sudden ‘Twilight’ Interest

With a new baby, new body and upcoming movie in the works, Jennifer Hudson is at the top of her game and she couldn’t seem happier – expect for, perhaps, the idea of her fiance making her a Mother’s Day meal!

AccessHollywood.com caught up the Oscar and Grammy winner on Friday during a photo shoot for Michigan Avenue Magazine in New York, where she reveled her plans for her first Mother’s Day this weekend.

“I just want to spend it with my family and, of course, my sweet little baby and enjoy my first mother’s day and that’s all I need.” she told Access when asked about her plans with son, David, who was born in August 2009. “And I want to eat good, that’s all I can ask for!”

Jennifer might be away from her hometown of Chicago, but said, “home is wherever the family is,” and that she’s planning a big home cooked meal with her loved ones – well, maybe not everyone will be in the kitchen this weekend.

“Eww, I hope not!” Jennifer said when we asked if her fiance and former VH1 reality star David Otunga would be making her a Mother’s Day meal. “No, no… umm maybe, we’ll have to see, that would be cute, knowing him he probably will.”

The new mom said she experienced many of the same fears that most first-time parents experience.

“In the beginning for all of us first-time moms, one of our biggest fears is, ‘Can I really handle this? Can I really be his mother and take care of his life?’” she explained, but added some words of encouragement for other moms. “It will be OK, you’ll get through it. I was terrified [in the beginning].”

In addition to recently signing on as the new spokesperson for WeightWatchers, Jennifer also continues to lend her support to the “7-Eleven Coffee Cup With A Cause” program, where sales of her personalized cup (on sale now) will help raise $250,000 for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America – but Jennifer is about to embark on yet another major journey.

Just a week after the actress/singer celebrates her first Mother’s Day, she’s leaving for South Africa to shoot the upcoming biopic “Winnie,” in which she’ll play the wife of Nelson Mandela, who is being portrayed by Terrence Howard.

“I think [Terrence] is an amazing actor, so I think he’s going to do an amazing job,” Jennifer told Access.

The actress, who has already earned an Oscar for her role as Effie White in “Dreamgirls,” said she’s working hard to get Winnie Mandela’s voice just right.

“I always feared the accent. But I’m in training for that right now,” she continued. “That to me is probably the biggest challenge, but it’s going very well so far. I’m working with my South African dialect coach. It’s fun, it’s like an adventure and a discovery.”

Access also broke news to Jennifer that “Dreamgirls” director Bill Condon was just tapped to direct the fourth movie in the “Twilight” saga, “Breaking Dawn.”

“Bill didn’t even tell me that! Bill, you didn’t tell me this!” a surprised Jennifer said. “I love Bill, he is not only one of the greatest directors ever, but he is also one of the sweetest people you’ll ever meet in your life. I’m sure he’s going to be amazing.”

The director also appears to have even made an instant Twi-hard out of the 28-year-old mom who said she’s not well versed (yet!) in the vampire world of Bella and Edward.

“Of course, now that Bill is involved, now I have to [see it]” Jennifer added.
