‘Jeopardy!’ Host Alex Trebek: ‘I Don’t Go To Bed In The Nude’

Alex Trebek’s turn as a crime fighter this past summer made headlines for a multitude of reasons – not just because he chased after a female robber who broke into his San Francisco hotel room, but because of his confession to Matt Lauer on “Today” that he had to put on his underwear to do it. But, the “Jeopardy!” host cleared things up to AccessHollywood.com’s Laura Saltman earlier this week, insisting his previous statement was not an indication he sleeps in the nude.

“No, that was incorrect. The press got it all wrong. I do not sleep in the nude,” Alex explained as Laura visited Alex at the opening of the “Jeopardy!” Hall of Fame in Los Angeles. “That night I was sleeping with a T-shirt. I didn’t have a bottom on because my pajama bottom tended to get caught in my left knee which was injured a year ago and hadn’t healed and caused me a great deal of pain, so I was dispensing with it that night because I had done a lot of walking in San Francisco that day.

“I don’t go to bed in the nude,” he added.

Alex insisted that the assumption he sleeps sans clothing was incorrect.

“The press picked up on the wrong thing. They assumed I was in the nude but I wasn’t,” he said.

While chasing down the burglar, Alex ruptured his Achilles tendon, and he’s still wearing a boot to protect his limb.

“It’s healing. [It’s been] six-and-a-half weeks now since the operation and now I’m walking with this boot,” he said. “The doctor still wants me to use the crutches if I have to go long distances, but another few weeks or couple of months rehab and I’ll be fine.”
