Jesse Eisenberg Not Convinced ‘The Social Network’ Was His Best Work: ‘I’ve Acted Better In Other Things’

Good thing the Oscar ballots are already in — Jesse Eisenberg has just taken aim at his own performance in “The Social Network.”

While the 27-year-old certainly didn’t pan his job in the Facebook-inspired film, Jesse who is nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for playing Mark Zuckerberg, suggested to CBS News he is more pleased with some of his previous films.

“I feel like I’ve acted better in other things,” the actor laughed. “I mean, I acknowledge this movie is regarded better than anything I’ve ever been in. But it doesn’t always feel like there’s a direct correlation between, like, what you do and the efforts you put in and the reception that follows.”

The star of other films – including “Zombieland,” “Adventureland” and “Solitary Man” – admitted he was an emotional child and acting was his way of getting things out in an appropriate way.

“When I started acting in earnest at 12 years old, I really embraced it because, in a safe and contained and controlled environment, it allowed me to emote. And it allowed me to kind of experience those feelings that were otherwise inappropriate to display, you know, in school or with friends,” he said.

“You know, it’s really impolite to cry at a basketball game. But it’s OK to cry in ‘Oliver,’ because, you know, his parents are gone and, you know, he’s eating out of the street. So, in a way, it was really comforting,” Jesse added.

Jesse will face off for the Best Actor Oscar Sunday against Javier Bardem from “Biutiful,” Jeff Bridges in “True Grit,” Colin Firth in “The King’s Speech” and James Franco in “127 Hours.” Who do you think should win? CLICK HERE to cast your vote in the AH Nation poll!
