John Legend Is Back ‘Once Again’

WASHINGTON (October 24, 2006) — John Legend doesn’t often disagree with producer will.i.am — but he says he does take issue with something the Black Eyed Peas member said about working with Legend on his new album.

will.i.am described the approach as a mixture of “hunger, humility and fear” — but Legend says he really “wasn’t afraid.”

He does say he was hungry, because he wanted to come up with something that would be close to duplicating the success of his debut, “Get Lifted,” which helped him win best new artist at the Grammys.

But he says he went into his follow-up CD knowing that — and about five bucks — would get him a cup of coffee at Starbucks. He’s aware that while people loved his first album, they wouldn’t cut him any slack if the second one was no good.

He says he felt the pressure to “make a great album again.”

The new album, “Once Again,” is in stores now.
