John Mayer Begins 2010 With Vow Of Twitter Silence

John Mayer is ushering in the New Year with a vow of silence on Twitter.

The singer and celebrity O.T. (Original Tweeter) hasn’t posted a single message to his Twitter page since the early hours of New Year’s Day, making good on a promise to cease “superficial” social networking.

“I will not use texting as a form of reaching out for superficial attention/affection at all hours of the night,” he wrote on New Year’s Eve. “By not micro-trading in my emotional stock value every second of the day, I may just end up seeing the bigger, beautiful picture.”

So how does the “Who Says” singer plan to spend his newfound free time?

“I will read books. I will listen to music. I will better track the words of others as they’re spoken to me,” he noted.

Mayer – who has over 2.8 million Twitter followers – offered one final message around 4 AM on January 1 before apparently signing off.

“My last tweet before the cleanse. Happy New Year,” he wrote. “May 2010 bring you all your heart desires. Let’s be better together. XO J.”
