John Stamos is headed in a “New Direction” – straight to FOX’s “Glee.”
In news first reported by Entertainment Weekly, the 46-year-old actor will reportedly join the cast of the popular musical series next season.
John, who recently appeared on Broadway in the revival of “Bye Bye Birdie,” told E! Online that his pipes and feet are ready for the new job.
“I’m singing and dancing every day. All day. So I hope they let me sing and dance a little,” he told E!. “I started watching the show when they goofed on me and fell in love with ‘Glee.’ I find it to be a celebration of diversity and I’m proud to be joining that whole extremely talented team.”
“Glee” executive producer Dante Di Loreto echoed John’s sentiments, telling E!, “I hope [John will sing]! He’s a good singer. I think he’s going to surprise you. I don’t think it is going to be at all what anyone expects.”
As for details on his reported role, the “Glee” team isn’t sounding off about it just yet.
“Frankly, none of us have seen any of those pages,” Dante explained. “As we are speaking, the writers are just writing these scripts. But they knew they had a particular character in mind and John was really well suited to that.”
“Glee” wrapped up its first season Tuesday night on FOX.
