John Travolta Remembers Longtime Friend James Gandolfini

John Travolta was close friends with the late James Gandolfini (the two co-starred in 1995’s “Get Shorty” and James often credited John with jumpstarting his career).

Access Hollywood caught up with John at the premiere of his new movie, “Killing Season,” where he shared his sadness over the sudden loss of “The Sopranos” star and revealed how James reached out following the death of John and Kelly Preston’s son, Jett, in 2009.

“I was very touched – he was very supportive of me when I lost my son and he wouldn’t even leave the city until he knew I was going to be fine,” John told Access on Thursday at the New York City premiere.

John’s connection to James goes all the way back to their mutual New Jersey roots.

“My father sold his father Firestone tires in a little shop,” John said.

The actor said he will miss James’ friendship and kindness off-screen, as well as his acting talents.

“He’s a human being first, he’s a people person first, and then the rest,” he said.

“Killing Season” – which also stars Robert De Niro and Mila Ventimiglia – hits theaters on July 12.
