Johnny Depp Makes First Divorce Payment To Amber Heard’s Chosen Charities

Johnny Depp
is making good on Amber Heard’s charitable request.

The actor
has begun paying out his estranged wife’s divorce settlement to the American
Civil Liberties Union and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, according to a
statement from his rep given to Access Hollywood on Thursday.

Calling both
organizations “exceptionally deserving and important,” the statement
also went on to applaud Heard’s decision.

“Johnny Depp
has sent the first of multiple installments of those monies to each charity in
the name of Amber Heard, which when completed will honor the full amount of Ms.
Heard’s pledge,” the statement read. “Ms. Heard’s generosity in
giving to these wonderful causes is deeply respected.”

As
previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Heard announced her plan on Aug. 18
– two days after she and Johnny reached an out-of-court agreement on their
split. The actress released a statement to Access at the time explaining that
she had no intention to keep the payout for herself.

“As
reported in the media, the amount received in the divorce was $7 million and $7
million is being donated,” she began.

Adding, “Money played no
role for me personally and never has, except to the extent that I could donate
it to charity and, in doing so, hopefully help those less able to defend
themselves.”

The former couple married in 2015 after first meeting on the
set of their 2011 film “The Rum Diary.” Heard filed for divorce back
in May.

Reps for Heard did not respond to a request for comment when contacted by Access Hollywood.
