Johnny Weir: ‘Every Little Boy Should Be So Lucky As To Turn Into Me’

In a sport that is defined by buttoned down competitors, figure skater Johnny Weir is a breath of fresh air. With his dramatic style and flair for fashion, he has been exhilarating on the ice, even if he only placed sixth at the Olympics.

Access Hollywood’s guest correspondent Dorothy Hamill went down the mountain for her own Weir experience at the Vancouver games, where the brash skater admitted winning a medal was going to be tough.

“Not because I wasn’t good enough, just that politically, no one was thinking of me that way,” he said.

The same flamboyance that makes many fans adore the skater also often makes him a target. Two Canadian broadcasters even went after Johnny on the air. Dorothy read him their quotes.

“They think all the boys that skate will end up like him,” a visibly upset Dorothy said.

”‘We should make him pass a gender test at this point,’” Dorothy read, getting very choked up at the broadcasters’ homophobic comments. “What do you think of that?”

“Every little boy should be so lucky as to turn into me,” Johnny said without batting an eyelash. “And that’s all I have to say.”

If Johnny had finished in the top five of the men’s figure skating – instead of 6th – he would have skated to Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face” in the post-competition gala this coming Saturday, with the Lady promising her friend she would attend.

But, alas, Johnny is resorting to Plan B.

“You know what we’re gonna do?” Johnny said looking at Dorothy. “I’m gonna put you in corset and we’re gonna skate to Lady Gaga together!”

“That’s a big corset, for me,” Dorothy chimed in laughing.

“Be Good Johnny Weir,” the skater’s reality show, airs Monday nights on the Sundance channel.
