Jon Cryer Wants Charlie Sheen To ‘Get Healthy, Stay Sober’

“Two and a Half Men” star Jon Cryer says he was genuinely surprised by Charlie Sheen’s recent headline-making behavior and antics.

“It’s as much a mystery to me as to everybody, I think,” he said on Wednesday’s “Late Show With David Letterman.”

“My favorite moment was I got a text actually, from someone, I don’t know who it was, saying, ‘Charlie Sheen just called Thomas Jefferson a [expletive].’ I said, ‘I think things are getting out of hand,’” Jon joked.

“We didn’t see where it was going,” the actor continued. “This has never happened before, honestly. It wasn’t like, back in 1963, oh everyone remembers when Fred McMurray went bats*** and started talking about free mason ninjas and stuff. It was crazy! And Vivian Vance started urinating on the set of ‘Here’s Lucy’… so nobody was prepared for this… None of us wanted to continue with the show if we felt it was hurting him, and there was a point at which when everyone felt like… there was no control here.”

In March when Sheen was fired and the show’s future was in limbo, Jon told Dave that people approached him on the street to express their strong feelings about the situation.

“It was the end of the world for some people. There are a lot of fans of the show… when we shut down, it hit people hard,” he said.

Despite Charlie’s antics – which included calling Jon a “troll” – the actor said he still considers him a friend.

“We want nothing but the best for him. I want him to get healthy, stay sober, I want him to be reunited with his family,” Jon said of former co-star. “That would be the best thing.”

It appears Charlie’s replacement, Ashton Kutcher, might be as much of a handful as his predecessor.

During a recent trip from Los Angeles to New York for the CBS Upfronts, Jon recalled how Ashton gushed about the joys of flying on the network’s corporate jet.

”‘You know what I love about private jets? You can bring knives on board,’” Jon said, recounting Ashton’s joke.

“There you go … chapter two. He’s crazy, like the first guy,” Dave joked.

“Two and a Half Men” returns to CBS this fall.
