The Jonas Brothers have addressed their recent band breakup.
Nick, Joe and Kevin made a joint appearance on “Good Morning America” on Wednesday, where they explained how the group’s dismantling came about (it was prompted by Nick just days before the band was scheduled to head out on tour).
“In a nutshell, I said, ‘I feel like we’ve had some complications within the new group for a long time without addressing them. I think this train will fall off the tracks without getting real about some of the limitations and some of the concerns that we may feel as individuals and within the group,’” Nick, 21, told Robin Roberts. “It was a tough conversation, I’m not gonna lie, and it was the first time we really had that real conversation and it was a few days of working through it. And now we’ve all come to a place after a lot of time thinking about it and talking about it together, where we feel like we’re best suited to do our own individual things, all things we’re passionate about and choose to be brothers first.”
Joe, 24, said a main point of contention between the brothers was music.
“For us, we held onto it for so long and at one point, a year later, we still felt like it was starting to get stale to us,” he said, adding that there were also other problems beyond creative differences. “It was just individual things that we were butting heads about, whether it was a way to set up the music video to even personal opportunities, and at some point we decided that it was best to finish this and support each other on own adventures along the way.”
As for what’s next for the JoBros, Nick said he plans to head back into the studio.
“My next move will be recording music, writing for myself and other people, and some acting opportunities and maybe a return to theater at some point,” he said.
Joe said his plans are “similar to Nick’s.”
“Make music on my own and acting and there’s a lot of other ideas,” Joe said. “This is the first time in a long time that we have time to focus on ourselves and support each other through that.”
Kevin, 25, who is expecting his first child with wife Danielle, said he’s leaving performing on the back burner in favor of pursuing something he’s more interested in.
“I’m going to be going into my first passion which is the business side of things… as well as being a father,” Kevin said.
Will The Jonas Brothers ever get back together as a band?
“I think it’s impossible to say forever with anything,” said Nick. “I feel like we’re playing it one step at a time right now and, like we said, rebuilding as brothers first and starting there.”
Additionally, the boys confirmed that their fifth studio album will not be completed nor released, but said they will release four new songs from it.
