Jordin Sparks, Gladys Knight & More Remember Whitney Houston At Clive Davis Pre-Grammy Party

At the Clive Davis pre-Grammys party at the Beverly Hilton on Saturday night, the stars who hit the red carpet were still thinking of Whitney Houston, who passed away hours before Clive’s annual event in 2012.

“Last year it was definitely very crazy because Whitney passed,” Jordin Sparks, who starred with Whitney in “Sparkle,” told Access Hollywood at the event. “I was on my way here when I got the news and it was very crazy.”

Jordin said her memories of a year ago made her think hard about coming to Clive’s bash on Saturday, but she chose to go to honor her friend.

“I went back and forth on whether I was gonna be here tonight, but I know that she would want us all to have a good time and to be happy and to celebrate music because she loved it,” Jordin said. “So, I’m honoring her in that way by being here because she was a part of this for so long.”

Singer Ashanti said Whitney would have appreciated seeing so many people at Clive’s party this year.

“I think she would love that everyone is gathering for such an amazing cause — to celebrate music and celebrate the Grammys,” she said.

Former “X Factor” judge, record executive L.A. Reid, who was honored at the Clive party, said attendees of the event were all reflecting on the tragic news from a year ago.

“It is really reflective and something that we all, I’m sure all of us, keep in mind and is heavy on our hearts,” he told Access. “We love Whitney and she left her amazing voice and great music, so we’ll always honor Whitney.”

Gladys Knight said she noted the mood of the moment, but was glad the party continued.

“It’s just melancholy… but I’m glad Clive is just pushing on and still giving us those special things,” she said referring to the special performances by stars and stars on the rise, which occur annually at his party.

Whitney was honored at the event on Saturday. Clive played a video of Whitney performing “All the man That I Need” for the troops.

“She was the greatest contemporary singer of our lifetime,” Clive told the crowd, per E! News.
