Josh Radnor Happy To Have Another Season Of How I Met Your Mother: We Get ‘A Victory Lap’

The cast (and fans!) of “How I Met Your Mother” were thrilled to learn the show would indeed return for a ninth and final season, and series star Josh Radnor says he’s relieved the cast will get to wrap up the show in a way that will satisfy viewers.

“It was great [to get another season],” he told Access Hollywood at the “Afternoon Delight” premiere at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. “When there was fear that we were suddenly just going to not come back, it felt a little weird to end like, oh, 10 more episodes and you’re done with this massive chapter of your life.”

The actor, who plays the lovable Ted Mosby on the CBS hit, said he and his castmates (Neil Patrick Harris, Cobie Smulders, Jason Segel and Alyson Hannigan), are grateful for the opportunity to savor every moment of the sitcom’s conclusion.

“Now we get to have a year where we all know it’s the last time, so [we] get a kind of victory lap,” he told Access. “[We] have a nicer, slower exit where [we] can kind of appreciate things more.”

As for life after “HIMYM,” Josh – who wrote and directed 2010’s “Happythankyoumoreplease” and 2012 Sundance hit, “Liberal Arts” – the mulit-talented star said he already has projects lined up.

“I’m writing some things,” he said. “I’m kind of working on two things – I’ve got a bigger thing and a smaller thing.”

“HIMYM” films for eight months out of the year – and Josh uses the remaining four months to film other projects, which he then perfects while shooting the CBS series.

“I edit as I’m working, with my editor, and put all the bells and whistles on it during the season,” he explained.

As previously reported on, a deal for a ninth season of “How I Met Your Mother” was reached in late December after series star Jason Segel agreed to return.
