Jude Law: How He Gained Weight For ‘Dom Hemingway’

Jude Law put on weight to play fresh-out-of-prison safe-cracker Dom Hemingway in the film of the same name.

“It just seemed clear that I needed to sort of look a little bit more excessive because he was someone who didn’t eat healthily, probably had a bit more bulk, drank too much, smoked too much, so I certainly changed what I normally eat,” Jude told Access Hollywood at the junket for his film.

Among the foods Jude consumed during the three-month lead up to shooting the movie (which also stars Emilia Clarke as his estranged daughter), were calorie-heavy items.

“Ice cream — couple of tubs of ice cream a day. Cheeseburgers were good. Lots of pasta, beer, milkshakes,” he told Access.

But as fun as it sounds, it took its toll on the English actor.

“I got kind of sick of it,” Jude told Access. “It felt by the end like gorging.”

Jude said it was easy to slim back down to his normal frame.

“I don’t really eat like that normally, so I just stopped,” he said of shifting the weight.

Jude wasn’t a “Game of Thrones” fan when he started “Dom Hemingway,” but a producer gave him the DVDs of co-star Emilia’s HBO show and he watched it all.

“I’m glad I wasn’t [watching ‘Thrones’] before because I don’t think I would’ve been able to treat Emilia the way I did,” Jude said, hinting at the rocky relationship between father and daughter in “Dom Hemingway.”

But now, he’s ready for the show’s Season 4 premiere (April 6 on HBO).

“I’m completely up to speed, ready for the new one,” he added.

“Dom Hemingway” hits theaters on April 2, 2014.
