Justin, Beyonce, Kanye & Rihanna Top MTV VMA Nominations

Beyonce and Justin Timberlake topped nominations for the MTV Video Music Awards, which were announced earlier today.

The stars both nabbed seven nods each including ones for Video of the Year, where Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable” will face off against Timberlake’s “What Goes Around Comes Around.”

Hip-hop superstar Kanye West and “Umbrella” lover Rihanna followed closely behind the pop powerhouses, netting five nominations a piece. Soulful British chanteuse Amy Winehouse is also up for three Moonmen, including Female Artist Of The Year.

Fergie, Robin Thicke, T.I., Akon, Nelly Furtado, Carrie Underwood, Lily Allen, Fall Out Boy, Linkin Park and Chris Daughtry were also honored with nominations.

The MTV Video Music Awards will take place at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas on Sunday September 9.

Known for memorable music moments (the Madonna-Britney-Christina Aguilera performance anyone?), a host of acts have already signed up to perform including Rihanna, Foo Fighters, Winehouse, Lily Allen, Chris Brown, Kanye West, Fall Out Boy and more.

Justin Timberlake and pal Timbaland will host a Fantasy Suite party around the event.

To cut the time down on the show, just eight awards will be given out during the telecast including Male & Female Artists of the Year, Most Earth shattering Collaboration, Monster Single of the Year and the Quadruple Threat Award.
