Justin Bieber Manager Arrested In NY Over Mall Frenzy

The manager for teen pop sensation Justin Bieber has been arrested on New York’s Long Island in connection with a fan frenzy at a mall.

Scott “Scooter” Braun surrendered to Nassau County police on Wednesday and awaits arraignment on charges of reckless endangerment and criminal nuisance. His lawyer says he will plead not guilty.

His arrest stems from a planned appearance in November by the 16-year-old Bieber. When the crowd became unruly, police told Braun to send out a Twitter message canceling the event.

The prosecutor says it took Braun 1 1/2 hours to send two tweets, but his lawyer says it took seven minutes. The 28-year-old Braun faces up to a year in jail if convicted.

“Mr. Braun put his own selfish desire for publicity above public safety and endangered the very fans who came to see his client, as well as innocent bystanders who were at the mall that day,” Nassau District Attorney Kathleen Rice said in a statement to Access Hollywood. “By refusing to send out the cancellation Tweet and preventing others from doing so, he blatantly ignored police directives and put thousands of innocent people in harm’s way. It was only through the fast and efficient work of the police department that a horrible disaster was averted.”

The teen star’s camp would not comment on the arrest to Access, though Bieber himself Tweeted on Wednesday, “You’ve got my total support @scooterbraun Wish you were here in Chicago with us #freescooter.”

Police at the time also arrested a vice president from Bieber’s record label.
