Justin Bieber Reveals His Pre-VMA Pep Talk From Usher

Before Justin Bieber made his MTV Video Music Awards debut on Sunday, the 16-year-old Canadian pop star was given some words of wisdom from his friend and mentor Usher.

“We talked about humility and, you know, how to handle yourself out here… just talked about it being my first performance,” Justin told Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson on the white carpet.

The singer, who performed a medley of “U Smile,” “Baby” and “Somebody To Love,” said he wasn’t feeling any pre-show jitters.

“I’m not really nervous, I don’t really get nervous but you know I’m excited,” he said before the performance.

Usher told Shaun that he could only teach the chart-topper so much.

“There’s other things that he’s gonna have to learn himself but that’s a part of the magic of him having a story as an artist and why I wanted to be involved from the beginning,” Usher explained.

The “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love” singer is almost twice as old as Biebs, but Usher said the young star has been able to teach him a few things too.

“We all know that [Justin’s] hair is doing its own thing right?” Usher said. “When the hair is a trending topic [on Twitter], that’s when you’ve done it!”
