Kara DioGuardi Dishes On ‘American Idol’ & Upcoming ‘Platinum Hit’

Former “American Idol” judge Kara DioGuardi says her new music reality show on Bravo will be nothing like her former FOX gig.

”‘Platinum Hit’ is completely different from ‘American Idol’ or ‘The X Factor’ because it’s about songwriters,” Kara told Access Hollywood on Thursday at the 2011 NewNowNext Awards in Los Angeles.

“It’s not about how they perform the songs, it’s about how they write the songs and if they’re writing great songs,” she continued. “It’s an inside look at the process of songwriting and what it takes to be a hit writer and if you look at all those shows like, ‘The X Factor’ and ‘American Idol’ — without great songs, how would anyone know how anyone sings?… So this is about finding the people that can create those songs.”

And what does the former “Idol” judge think about the new season with Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez?

“I’ve seen bits and pieces of it and it really looks like they’re having fun, and it looks like there’s some good talent. I wouldn’t be here without ‘American Idol,’ so I have nothing but love for that show and it still keeps a lot of songwriters in business,” Kara told Access. “I think that [Steven and J.Lo] are both looking like they’re having a great time and they’re both really talented and they know what’s good and what’s not good.”

Kara is also excited for Simon Cowell’s “The X Factor,”

“I will definitely tune in for that,” she added. “I want to see Simon torture some more people!”

Bravo’s “Platinum Hit” with singer Jewel is slated to debut on Bravo this summer.
