Kate Gosselin says that estranged husband Jon Gosselin has left her and her eight kids high and dry after draining their mutual bank account.
“When you’ve left your children and their mother without the funds to pay for the roof over their head, it’s not acceptable,” the 34-year-old mother said during an appearance on NBC’s “Today” show on Monday.
“I need that money to provide for them. We were in the position after our sextuplets were born that we could not pay our bills,” she continued. “We did the show to provide a better life for them. Never did I think I’d be back in the same position… I can’t sleep at night. I can’t pay my bills.”
As previously reported by AccessHollywood.com, Jon allegedly removed $200,000 from the former couple’s joint bank account – leaving a mere $1,000. A judge had previously warned the former couple that neither could remove significant amounts from the account without the other’s approval.
Kate responded with legal action against Jon, having a lawyer send a letter to him demanding the return of the funds, with papers to be filed in a Pennsylvania court on Monday.
Kate says that communication with her estranged husband has broken down, and she believes his lawyers might be responsible.
“Whenever we have a conversation and ‘solve’ things, he hangs up the phone and does something different. I simply cannot reach him,” Kate explained. “I think he’s receiving bad counsel. He’s always been one to listen to the one next to him.”
The mother of eight also revealed that her brood has been left devastated now that their TLC show has stopped production.
“I told the kids over the weekend that we weren’t filming,” she said. “Times eight, there was wailing and sobbing. They love the crew, they love the interaction, they love the events. It is not harmful to them. They are angry.”
And despite their nasty separation, Kate said she is still holding out hope that the husband she once knew will return.
“I’m still hoping at some point I’ll receive a phone call, and the old Jon is back,” Kate said.
