Kate Spade Saturday Comes To Los Angeles (Glam Slam)

Los Angeles got its first taste of Kate Spade Saturday over the weekend when the brand branched out by opening its first California store on West 3rd Street.

“We love this neighborhood d because it feels like a neighborhood,” Kyle Andrew, Senior Vice President and Brand Director for Kate Spade Saturday, told Glam Slam of the shop’s spot when we got a sneak peek before it opened hours later to the general public. “There’s like funky weird stores… some really interesting stores, and then there’s some stores that are like really high end. We love the mix. We love the people walking around. It just felt like the right place to start.”

Kate Spade Saturday is an offshoot of kate spade new york aimed at “millennials.”

“The idea for Kate Spade Saturday came out of the fact of when we were talking to customers, a lot of the women in their 20s and 30s love the idea of kate spade new york — the color, the pattern, the playfulness, the fun — but they weren’t quite ready for kate spade new york, either they’re not making enough money or they don’t have that kind of life or job, but they love the spirit of the brand. So this came out of the idea of, ‘How do we take the spirit and make it more accessible to a younger customer?’” Kyle explained. “So that’s how this was born. So Kate Spade Saturday — [it’s has the] same core values, but making it easier price points for her, more casual for her lifestyle and just a little more playful, a little more fun.”

And that price point is about 50% less than kate spade new york. The new shop also hinted at its more youthful appeal with colors that popped and unique patterns, which were peppered throughout the store.

Pieces that were awash with bright colors included the trendy Chartreuse Ombre Stripe Crewneck Sweater ($130) and the perky Slash-Pocket Shift Dress in Sunset Stripe ($180). Eye-catching patterned items included the Slim-Fit Zip Pant in Sunspot ($130), or their Skinny Jean in One Two Tree ($120).

“Color’s huge for us — and pattern,” Kyle told Glam Slam. “We have our own in house artist who creates all our patterns so everything is unique and original to us and we put it on everything.”

The One Two Tree pattern spilled on to an umbrella ($35), and the Sunset Stripe brightened up a Utility Bag ($175).

“We have every category because we really wanted to address her whole casual lifestyle, so we have home, we have shoes, we have jewelry, bags, clothes, almost everything,” Kyle said.

The brand is also making waves for its fully customizable Weekender Bag. Buyers can choose between different sizes of the bag, and their favorite patterns and colors for the body and handle, another for the base, still another for the front and back pockets and one more option on the straps.

While a DJ entertained guests at the opening, the fun music will continue thanks to an in-store record player and hefty music selection. But, for those who can’t make it to the fashion spot, Kyle noted Kate Spade Saturday is growing.

“We’re about to open another one in Houston next week, in Singapore in October and another one in New York, in Soho, in December,” she said.
