Katherine Heigl Talks Getting Dark On ‘State Of Affairs’

Katherine Heigl will give fans a look at an entirely new and dark side in the upcoming “State of Affairs.”

The actress, best known for “Grey’s Anatomy” and numerous big screen rom-coms, plays CIA officer Charlie Savas who is tasked with finding the terrorists who killed her fiance, a man who also happened to be the President’s son.

“I play the briefer to the President, so I am bringing her information everyday about what is going on in the world,” the actress told Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson during a visit to set.

“The highest and most intense threats that are facing our nation,” she said of the show’s political intrigue storyline.

Prepping for such a high level government character had its challenges for the actress but executive producers Rodney Faraon and Hank Crompton were able to lend their expertise.

“I don’t think there is anything that I can possibly learn about being a briefer to do this [role], those guys are pretty high level of intelligence and security, but we have been able to talk to Rodney Faraon and Hank Crompton. They are executive producers on this as well, but are also ex CIA,” she told Shaun. “Rodney was the briefer to two different Presidents, so he has told us a lot of stories about his experiences… some of the intense situations where you are sitting across from the President and you gotta make a call about sending a missile to a bunker in Iraq.”
