Kathy Griffin To Be Honored At GLAAD Media Awards

Comedian and “My Life On The D List” star will be honored at the 20th Annual GLAAD Media Awards with the Vanguard Award, Access Hollywood has learned.

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) said Kathy is “a long time ally of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community” and “consistently includes LGBT people on the two-time Emmy-winning reality program ‘Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List,’ as well as in her comedy specials, her Grammy-nominated comedy CD ‘For Your Consideration,’ and in her stand-up routines around the world.” 

This year “Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List” received its second consecutive nomination for Outstanding Reality Program.

Past recipients of the Vanguard Award include Janet Jackson, Charlize Theron, Antonio Banderas, Eric McCormack, Elizabeth Taylor, Liza Minnelli and Whoopi Goldberg.

Also announced on Tuesday, the Showtime drama “The L Word” will receive a Special Recognition Award as the show concludes its sixth and final season.

Joining Kathy on the nomination list announced in January are “Brothers & Sisters,” “Desperate Housewives,” “Ugly Betty,” “ER” and NBC’s the “Today” show.

In the world of movies, “Brideshead Revisited,” “Milk,” “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist,” “RocknRolla” and “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” were nominated for Outstanding Film – Wide Release.

Tyra Banks and Suze Orman will both receive special honors from GLAAD. Tyra will receive the Excellence in Media award, and Suze will receive the Vito Russo award.

T.R. Knight, Eric Dane, Rebecca Gayheart, Balthazar Getty, John Stamos, Megan Mullally, Alan Cumming, Gus Van Sant and George Takei are some of the guests scheduled to appear at the GLAAD Media Awards, which will be presented in three separate ceremonies in New York on March 28 and in Los Angeles on April 18. Actor and activist Chad Allen will be honored at the San Francisco ceremony on May 9.
