Katie Couric Helps Media Tycoon Barry Diller Escape Snowy Central Park Car Crisis

“CBS Evening News” anchor Katie Couric lent a helping hand to IAC Chairman and Senior Executive Barry Diller during a snow-covered morning Thursday in New York City. Couric posted this TwitPic of her pushing Diller’s stuck Maserati out of the snow in Central Park on her way to work.

“We got out of the car and we were just making fun of him, taking pictures,” Katie told Billy Bush on “The Billy Bush Radio Show” on Thursday. The journalist was catching a ride to work from a friend when they found themselves in the traffic jam that had been caused by the billionaire’s mishap. “I guess you just had to take your Maserati out for a spin, didn’t you?” Katie admits telling Diller.

The group made attempts to move the media mogul’s vehicle, but were no match for the uncooperative conditions. “All three of us tried to push it backwards so he could move the car forward. Those cars are heavy,” she explained.

It was then that the newswoman’s friend decided to snap the picture. “I just thought it was funny. Only in New York,” Katie mentioned, quoting the famous tagline of NY Post columnist Cindy Adams.

However, Katie isn’t letting the east coast weather stand in the way of her musical dreams. She also spoke with Billy about her guest-starring role on the post-Super Bowl episode of the hit FOX series, “Glee.”

“That’s got to be in the Top 10 of cool things I’ve been able to do as a result of my job,” Katie confessed. “I am so psyched about it and it was so much fun.”

The “CBS Evening News” anchor admits to being a big fan of the show. “I’m a total ‘Gleek’; I need to go to ‘Glee-hab,’” she admitted, praising the musical show’s producers for tackling real issues which face teenagers today. “I think they’re really brave and I admire everyone behind the scenes of that show.”

Unlike past guest star Gwyneth Paltrow, Katie won’t partake in any of the show’s famous musical numbers. She told Billy that she spends most of her screen time with the show’s star villain, Sue Sylvester. “I love Jane Lynch and we had a lot of fun doing it. She is one of the coolest people I’ve ever met. I could’ve used a little more face time with Mr. Schuster,” she added.

Katie has some special treats planned before her episode hits airwaves. “We brought a Flip camera to do some funny behind the scenes moments that we’re going to start posting next week, called “Glee Bits.”

Couric’s “Glee” cameo will air Sunday, February 6, on FOX, immediately following the Super Bowl.
