Katie Couric Hopes Gibson Scandal Gives Abused Women A Voice

Katie Couric hopes there is something positive that emerges from the ongoing scandal resulting from the Mel Gibson / Oksana Grigorieva feud.

Couric addressed the allegations against Gibson on Monday’s “CBS Evening News” in her editorial segment, “Katie Couric’s Notebook.”

“His alleged attacks, both verbal and physical, were not just sexist… they were downright violent,” Katie said, referring to 54-year-old actor and his alleged fight with Grigorieva.

The newscaster said she would like the story to do more than just plaster the cover of tabloids.

“I’d prefer to see this story give voice to millions of women enduring abuse and longing for a way out…who have no tape recorder to capture their fear,” she said on Monday.
