Katy Perry On Lady Gaga’s Religious Faux Paus & How Russell Brand Will ‘Change People’s Lives’

Katy Perry has made no secret of the displeasure she felt after viewing Lady Gaga’s saucy “Alejandro” music video and she explained to Rolling Stone magazine recently what it was that really upset her most about the promotional clip.

“I am sensitive to… Lady Gaga putting a rosary in her mouth. I think when you put sex and spirituality in the same bottle and shake it up, bad things happen,” Katy, the daughter of two evangelical pastors, told the mag. Katy appears on Rolling Stone’s August 19th cover dressed in a bikini. “Yes, I said I kissed a girl. But I didn’t say I kissed a girl while f***ing a crucifix.”

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, earlier this summer, Katy Tweeted after viewing Gaga’s new video for the first time, writing, “Using blasphemy as entertainment is as cheap as a comedian telling a fart joke.” She later backed off her comments, telling Entertainment Weekly she is “a massive fan” of the Lady, and claimed her comment was “more of a non-specific, general thing.”

Katy stripped down to just fishnet stockings for the Rolling Stone photo shoot and in addition to talking Gaga, she also opened up about fiance Russell Brand, and how she thinks he will move people and change culture in the long haul.

“I think he’s going to change people’s lives,” the raven-haired beauty said. “He’s going to help them remember why we exist, and it’s not for Heidi and Spencer, celebrity culture, or fame, or crotch shots, or box office movies. His pilgrimage is spiritual. I think his destination will be complete nirvana.”

The singer, who releases her sophomore album, “Teenage Dream,” on August 24, said she was smitten by Russell very early on, and that as she waited with him in an airport lounge as they were embarking on a lover’s trip to India last year, she felt they were on the verge of something big.

“When we met in the lounge, I was so nervous. It was the most nerve-racking thing I’ve ever done,” Katy admitted. “I realized this man knew what would make me happy. This man was really watching, and listening, and paying attention.”

While she spoke about her future husband, Katy also opened up about her parents, and in particular, their struggle with poverty.

“Sometimes we ate from the same food bank we used to feed our congregation, and I was embarrassed by that,” she said. “We had the food-stamp moment too, but I don’t like to talk about that. I don’t want to come from the place of ‘Hey, relate to me, I use food stamps.’”
