Keira Knightley: Topless Un-Retouched Photo Wasn’t ‘A Big Deal’

Keira Knightley made headlines earlier this month for a topless photoshoot she did for Interview magazine.

However, the news wasn’t that the actress posed topless, it was that the photo had been completely un-retouched, at the request of Keira – and she explained her reasoning to Access Hollywood.

“I’ve definitely done quite a few shoots where you go ‘Wow. I didn’t even have to turn up because that looks so unlike me,'” she told Access’ Shaun Robinson at the Hollywood Film Awards in Los Angeles.

“One recently, and it didn’t feel like a very big stand, they just said, ‘Will you do topless?’ And I said ‘Only if you don’t change it [or] retouch it.’ And they said, ‘Fine,'” she explained. “So it didn’t feel like a big deal. “

The photoshop-lacking pic spawned lots of discussion about body image issues for women, and the actress was praised for demanding her true self be shown.

“I think it’s great that people are having a discussion about it. I think women’s bodies are a battle ground, I think we’re constantly told that something is wrong with us – whether we’re too short or too tall or too thin or too fat, your boobs are too small or too big, our legs are too– you really can’t win,” she said.

“And I think it’s about time that we actually start going, ‘There are differences and they’re beautiful,’ and we have to start seeing them as great and not something to feel ashamed of,” she added.
