After months of planning her wedding to Brandon Blackstock, Kelly Clarkson is ditching her initial ideas in favor of an elopement due to scheduling conflicts.
“We are so busy that we finally just came to terms the other night and were like, ‘So, we change our minds and we want to elope,’” the “Tie It Up” singer told People. “We just got so overwhelmed by it – all the decisions.”
The couple, who got engaged in December, was already in the late stages of planning their wedding when they did an about face.
“We sent out a save-the-date to everyone and then it got crazy and all the details were leaking,” she said. “Then honestly the planning – I have a Christmas record coming out. I’m doing a bunch of stuff with State Farm right now.”
Additionally, Brandon – a talent manager, whose clients include country superstar Blake Shelton – also has an intense work schedule and two children from a previous marriage.
“We have two kids who just started school. We’re going to all these football games and soccer games and volleyball games and [Brandon]‘s got one of the biggest artists in country music,” Kelly, 31, explained. “He’s flying everywhere.”
After deciding to elope, the couple sent an engagement photo to their would-be wedding guests with a note that said, “Thank you so much for understanding, but it’s just going to be [Kelly] and Brandon and his two kids and the minister.”
“Our whole life is a celebration – that’s what we kept laughing about. We don’t need another day where we throw a big party,” Kelly told the mag. “Our lives are so in the spotlight all the time. Everything is such a spectacle, we were like, ‘We would rather have an intimate moment that’s special.’”
As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, the original “American Idol” champ announced her engagement to Brandon via Twitter in December, writing, “I’M ENGAGED!!!!! I wanted y’all to know!! Happiest night of my life last night! I am so lucky and am with the greatest man ever :)”
Kelly and Brandon (who is Reba McEntire’s stepson), began dating in early 2012.
