Kelly Clarkson’s NASCAR Cause

As the original “American Idol,” Kelly Clarkson has the kind of insight on the show that no one else has.

And when she sat down with Access Hollywood’s Maria Menounos on the set of her new NASCAR commercial, Kelly said that taking your lumps from the judges is all part of the process ? and she understands it makes for good TV.

“It’s the best part, obviously. It’s the beginning shows and people are just horrible,” Kelly said.

Just like the rest of America, Kelly is getting a good laugh out of this year’s early “Idol” rounds.

“You feel bad for laughing but at the same time, it’s like are you joking?” she added.

“A lot of people are giving Randy, Paula and Simon some flack saying they’re too mean,” Maria told Kelly. “What do you think?”

“A little harsh,” Kelly agreed. “They are nothing compared to what critics are going to say about you. If you think that’s mean, just stop now because it gets a lot worse.”

Of course it’s nothing 2 Grammys and 7 million albums sold can’t cure ? just ask Kelly! But now Clarkson is living life in the fast lane with a season-long commitment to NASCAR.

“I got on board, not even for a big paycheck or anything, just to help out. Just have fun and do some charity work with them, ” Kelly explained.

“No paycheck?” Maria asked.

“People do stuff for money all the time. I have enough money. It’s all about giving back as well,” Kelly replied.

Part of giving back for Kelly is working with the NASCAR Foundation and meeting young fans, including 11-year-olds Jed Hall and Ashley Garcia, both of whom attend Painted Turtle, a camp for kids battling serious illnesses.

“When I saw her I was like, ‘Oh my gosh’ because I’m such a big fan of Kelly’s,” Ashely told Access.

“She’s awesome,” Kelly smiled.
