LAS VEGAS (December 5, 2006) — Kenny Chesney fans may be in for a wait. The country singer revealed last night he has no immediate plans to follow-up 2005s ?The Road and The Radio.?
“I?m not in the studio yet,” he told reporters after coming off stage at the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas. “I?m thinking about it. I don?t know if-when-if that?s gonna happen, but one thing?s for sure, I?m not gonna go in just because it?s time to go in or ?cause other people think it?s time.”
Chesney is planning to let the record happen naturally, instead of on a schedule.
“I?m gonna try to get out of that cycle that we?ve been in. I think the next record that I put out, [is going to be because] it?s done instead of its time,” he added.
For those saddened by the news, don?t fret. Chesney also said he can?t wait to get back out on the road, his tour earlier this year being his highlight of 2006.
“My best reflection of 2006 is being able to stand behind a microphone kind of like this and see a sea of people every night,” he said. “To feel their energy and feel the band?s energy and feel those two meet like they do it?s like [being] hyper-alive.”
The country tunesmith says in particular, he is eager to kick off a 2007 tour, which will see him hitting some pretty big venues.
“We?re probably gonna do six NFL football stadiums next year. We are changing it a little bit,” he said. “We?re gonna take it outside more this year. My audience and our vibe on the road — I still feel like we?re an outdoor act. Even though we play a lot of indoor shows and the energy is great, last year I made up my mind that I was gonna do the majority of our shows outdoors because it?s summer and they wanna come and they wanna forget for a couple of hours and I just felt people would have more fun in the outdoors out there in the grass.”
