Keri Russell & Jonathan Rhys Meyers Reunite For ‘August Rush’

“August Rush” is a story of family, music and love.

“I like movies that generally make me want to believe in myself and sort of are hopeful and I think this movie does that,” “August Rush” star Keri Russell told Access Hollywood.

The movie reunites “Mission Impossible 3” co-stars Keri and Jonathan Rhys Meyers. The sweet family film is about young lovers ripped apart only to later discover they have a son – a musical prodigy who uses his gift as a clue to finding his birth parents.

Jonathan sings and plays guitar in the film.

“I recorded the songs, so I sung all my own songs on the soundtrack,” Jonathan told Access.

Keri learned to play the cello for the role.

“Oh boy did I,” she laughed. “Hours and hours a day!”

But the film’s true star is 15-year old English import, Freddie Highmore (well-known already from 2006’s “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and “Finding Neverland“) who learned to play guitar, the organ and conduct an entire orchestra.

“I guess the most challenging [thing] was probably the conducting,” Freddie said. “I wanted to do it realistically. I think people can tell if you know what you are doing or if you are just making it up as you go along.”

Robin Williams is also in the film, in a small role as the man who unlocks Freddie’s hidden musical potential.

“To play a small part is actually kind of wonderful and to work with somebody like Freddie is great,” Robin noted.
