Kesha & Dr. Luke’s Dueling Lawsuits: The Details

Pop star Kesha has filed a lawsuit against her former producer, Dr. Luke, claiming she was abused by him for 10 years. Dr. Luke filed a separate lawsuit the same day alleging defamation and breach of contract, and claiming that Kesha’s statements are false.

In Kesha’s lawsuit, obtained by Access Hollywood, the singer (whose full name is Kesha Rose Sebert), alleges that the producer (real name Lukasz Gottwald) was sexually, physically, verbally and emotionally abusive.

In the suit, the singer also alleges Gottwald forced her to take drugs and alcohol and then took advantage of her sexually.

The lawsuit claims that on one occasion, Gottwald allegedly raped the singer and later threatened to “destroy” her and her family if she mentioned it. Sebert claims that she was drugged with GHB during the incident.

The suit also details alleged verbal abuse that the singer suffered. She claims that the producer called her a “fat f***ing refrigerator.”

Mark Geragos, attorney for the singer, released a statement on Tuesday.

“This lawsuit is a wholehearted effort by Kesha to regain control of her music career and her personal freedom after suffering for 10 years as a victim of mental manipulation, emotional abuse and sexual assault at the hands of Dr. Luke. The facts presented in our lawsuit paint a picture of a man who is controlling and willing to commit horrible acts of abuse in an attempt to intimidate an impressionable, talented, young female artist into submission for his personal gain. Kesha is focused on moving her life and her career beyond this terrible time,” Geragos’ statement read.

On the same day the singer filed her lawsuit, the producer filed his own, which Access has obtained.

In court documents, Gottwald claims that Sebert attempted to extort him by resorting to a campaign of publishing defamatory statements in attempt to get the singer out of her recording contract.

The producer’s lawyer, Christine Lepera, released a statement on Tuesday saying in part:

“We understand that Kesha has filed a lawsuit of her own against Dr. Luke, though we have not yet seen it. Undoubtedly, Kesha’s lawsuit is nothing more than a continuation of her bad and offensive acts. We are confident that Dr. Luke will prevail in all matters, and that our client will be awarded substantial damages for this malicious conduct,” Lepera’s statement read.

The singer and the producer worked together on most of her big hits including, “Tik Tok,” “We R Who We R,” and “Your Love Is My Drug.”

The producer has also worked with a slew of music’s biggest names including Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Jessie J, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna and Shakira.
