Kevin Costner Rocks Out For NASCAR

Add Kevin Costner to the list of actors with bands.

The “Mr. Brooks” star surprised crowds at Saturday’s Coke Zero 400 NASCAR event when he took the stage with his country-rock group, Modern West, People reported.

“There were double-takes,” Costner told People. “They get into the music without knowing.”

Lead by the singer-actor, the band cruised through a 50-minute set of originals and Bob Dylan’s “Mr. Tambourine Man” at Daytona International Speedway. But don’t look for him behind the wheel any time soon.

“I ride bareback with buffalo and do my own stunts in movies that maybe some people wouldn’t do at all, but I’ve never had the penchant for speed,” Costner said. “In high school … nobody wanted to go with me. I was Twenty-Mile-An-Hour Costner.”

Despite the NASCAR crowds, the actor was playing to an audience of one — his 14-month-old son, Cayden, who’d never seen his dad perform live before.

“It was magic,” said the doting dad. “I can’t take my eyes off of him. I’m anxious to see what kind of a person he can grow into.”

In the meantime, Costner is producing and starring in upcoming film “Swing Vote” and prepping an album with Modern West slated for an October release.
