Kirsten Dunst Victim Of Theft At New York Hotel

NEW YORK, NY (August 24, 2007) — Actress Kirsten Dunst was allegedly burglarized of cash, I.D. cards and personal belongings about two weeks ago by thieves who snuck into a hotel suite being utilized by Dunst and other cast and crew of a movie shoot.

The burglary occurred at approximately 4:48 AM on Aug. 9 at the SoHo Grand in Manhattan, according to police. Dunst, 25, was among those shooting scenes at the hotel for the upcoming film, “How to Lose Friends and Alienate People.”

A rep for the SoHo Grand released the following statement to Access Hollywood:

“The film ‘How to Lose Friends and Alienate People’ was filming on location at the SoHo Grand Hotel on August 8 and 9. On the morning of August 10 the hotel was notified that some personal items and cash were stolen from the Penthouse level which was being used by the cast and crew of the film as a holding room in between takes. As the NYPD report indicates, at the time of the theft the rooms were not occupied and the doors had inadvertently been left open by the crew. The SoHo Grand assisted the NYPD in the investigation of the incident which has led to the arrest of one of the suspects.”

Kirsten Dunst’s rep had no comment when contacted by Access.

A complaint filed with the New York Police Department states that the stolen items, estimated to be collectively worth more than $10,000, include a Marc Jacobs purse, multiple wallets containing identifications, multiple credit cards, several bags, United States currency, two cameras, a cell phone and an iPod (among other things).

The credit cards, I.D.s and cell phone have since been recovered by authorities. U.S. postal workers recovered the items as “lost property” from a mailbox where a witness said it was stashed, according to a police source.

Jarrod Beinerman, 33, was arrested by police on Wednesday, Aug. 22. He was being held as a suspect on $50,000 bond on Thursday, following an arraignment in a Manhattan court on burglary and grand larceny charges. He is due back in court on Monday, Aug. 27.

The police reportedly told the NY Post that they are searching for Beinerman’s alleged accomplice, whose name they said they know.

The suspects were seen entering the hotel empty-handed on hotel surveillance video, according to a police source.

Beinerman reportedly took a guest elevator to the floor below Dunst’s suite and then took a freight elevator up to the penthouse level, where he allegedly walked through an open door into the suite.

The suspects were seen on hotel surveillance video exiting the hotel with bags in their hands, police said.

According to the Associated Press, Beinerman’s lawyer, James Kirschner, told the judge the surveillance camera showed his client wasn’t carrying anything in his hands when he left the SoHo Grand. Kirschner said Beinerman had heard a movie was being filmed at the hotel and “went there to check out what was going on.”

Beinerman was previously charged with a misdemeanor for unlicensed driving in 1994, and again in 1996.

He received a four-year sentence in 1997 on a federal felony charge of conspiracy to sell cocaine, and an additional one-year sentence on a felony charge of cocaine possession in federal correctional facility in 1998.

In Feb. 2007, Beinerman was arrested on state felony drug charges in Brooklyn, NY. The case has been indicted and remains open.
